Let's rationally look at the 'big picture'...think about it - there IS a whole lotta' whatever under our feet (more than 6' under now, y'hear...). $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Any fishermen out there? - sunfish, catfish, lg. or sm. mouth bass, walleye, n. pike, musky, striper, perch? Now, you know when a fish is playin' with ya'?...just hit, nibble, & run - at your expense...well, as long as you've got the worms - they've got the interest. In THIS scenario - it IS a circular 'fishing' game of cat & mouse.
IF there was NO interest in this vicinity - it would be a 'pack up your box & go home' - game over, done deal. The fisherman keeps returning to the hole - and the fish keep hoping that he'll have juicy worms. - just a thought....

Doesn't matter how many shale layers there are (they were still trying to figure this out...I think there is much clearer than before for them now...); does matter if it's wet, dry - gas/oil - you know (they know too...).
Bottom line - if there was nothing here to bother about - it would be a 'game over' - no if's, &'s, or but's about it...still fishin'....
...read again 'reply by Greg B on Friday' - it WILL take alot of money to take on this area - and time to get a good handle on it (that is coming...)...there IS the problem of transportation & refining of product - there are many factors that do effect overall decisions. Know this - we're 'small potatoes' for them. IF we were in the $20,000/acre bonus signup & 20-25% royalty, THEN there'd be something to get all hot & bothered about - these good folks get all jumpy when they hear $4,000 +/acre & 15-18%. The G/O Co.'s are still sitting pretty here.
I said once quite some time ago now that Shell was gonna' let the 'little guys' in to 'clean up & write the checks'. Why would I say that? - ...the perfect poker game - they can trade contracts or do God knows what with another company to get all their ducks in a row without setting fire to the area (money-wise excitement). Keep laying low & trickling along, keep building, developing - there's no rush. NO, there is NO rush...it ain't goin' nowhere - they can bide their good ole' sweet time. Get it?

Enough said - you make heads or tales outta' the whole smear. I've only been about for a bit - in & out...but I read, hear, listen, absorb, think - what has changed, what has stayed the same...lots of old timers have seen lots of things - doesn't mean that it all makes sense, but they learn to bide their time. A wise man once said to me in my youth - there is a deal out there every day. There is...like I said earlier - it isn't goin' anywhere (the G/O, that is...) - been around for a bit of time. Until the $ goes up in this corner - it IS in the best 'storage place' that it could possibly be - in the ground.
There ARE things moving below the surface...it just takes time to read, learn, listen, put together this & that...to get a better picture of what goes on here, there, and everywhere.... Patience (of which I too have not much, yet do.).
J-O - keep learning, reading, listening - it all does come together. You have been around longer than I and know that money matters matter. The fact that taxes are increasing & forcing things down people's throats - there is money to be had somewhere in this mix.
You're a cut-up, gary smith - we're all on the same page here (as landowners), I would like to believe. It's tough at times here to get a handle on who is what, ain't it?...your take: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
