Would really appreciate some advice, here is my problem.

I own 25 acres in Harrison County. I bought this land from Brunner Land many years ago. There were 9 parcels and I bought # 9. My neighbor (Who owns parcel #8) and I both signed leases in the summer of 2011 with Chesapeake. About two months later I received a call informing me that I did not own mineral rights, and I would not receive any money. Today I got a call from my neighbor, he said he received his check, what gives? We both bought from the same company, at about the same time, and the same land contract. Where can I go for some answers?

I recently found out 3 days before my 90 day waiting period (for the bonus check) was up, that we could not lease due to an old lease. We had no idea of an old lease pertaining to our property, which had been subdivided from a large parcel many years ago. If you check out my discussion titled, 'So...Now I Have No Morals', my story unfolds there. Other GMS members have been so kind to offer information as to where to begin the daunting process. From my understanding, Brunner Land purchased quite a bit of reclaimed land from old mines. This is what we were told when searching for vacant land to buy. We did not purchase from Brunner. I feel your pain...and wish you luck.

What does your deed say about minerals or oil and gas?
