Surface damages

Have you ever experienced any damages to your surface land? How was it dealt with by the drilling company? Were you notified, or did you have to bring it to their attention? Was it handled satisfactorily, and were you asked to sign any paperwork? If so, what was the document? Companies I have dealt with have always been quite considerate. What I'm trying to get at is procedures that are generally employed in this situation, not to find fault or put anyone down.

Tom-

I was contacted by a liaison for the company well before any work was done and informed of their plans to disturb some acreage. I had many questions and concerns. However the company handled it in an overwhelmingly professional and courteous manner. Took their time and answered my questions always with my satisfaction a top concern. In the end I signed a damage release, received a compensation (that was NOT part of my lease) and we have moved on. I continue to be nothing but satisfied with the company since early 2009.

Farmhouse-- Thanks so much for the response. As mentioned, my experience has always been quite satisfactory too, but maybe you and I got lucky.

Out of curiosity, was the liaison person you dealt with from the company's land department or legal? I don't need to know how much you were paid, but was wondering exactly what aspects the release you signed covered--in other words, what surface disturbances was the company willing to pay for?

I'm trying to learn more about how damage releases are normally handled. Glad everything worked out with your company.
