How difficult is it to design & drill the well curve from the KOP to the target shale layer? Do gas companies often get this calculation wrong? What happens if they miss the target zone? Do they just redrill the bore curve again?

Any gas industry guys out there who have insights into this question? Is this a common problem?
Not only do they need to hit the sweet spot zone which could be only several feet deep , oily wells have to be set up where the toe is higher than the heel ... so any residue oil will drift to the curve / heel and get pumped out .......
I heave heard personal George Mitchell stories , that while developing Fracking he was laughed at behind his back by his own staff ....... Industry insiders say Mitchell was 'THE MAN " ......
