Hi,
Generally I've noticed wells labelled 1H, 2H, up to 8H. Just recently noticed 2 permitted wells off of one pad labeled 21H and 25H. Why are these wells designated this way? Is it referring to a specific strata? Any insight would be very helpful. Thanks!

Are you referring to information on ODNR that I spoke about in my post?
OK this link is the main website Oil and Gas Ohio DNR
On the right side the bottom box you will see Shale Activity. There you will find new permits for both Marcellus and Utica wells. Also you will find another two spread sheets with all Marcellus and Utica wells to date. So four different spreadsheets you can click on to find information. Here is the link.
Back on the home page you will also see Well Locator box (the top one) you can zoom in and get to the well cards from here. Then there is the Well Data Base the second box down. You can get to well card from here also. Attached to well card at bottom are tons of papers that drillers must file, production reports, the survey for the drilling unit when the got the permit, a journal of the drilling activity ... what was hit where ... water, gas etc. It could take hours to read and understand all that is located on the well card but it is there. If you have a specific Utica or Marcellus well you are interested in find the well number first on the shale activity spread sheets. I will tell you now the database and the well finder map are not user friendly for those who have not worked with this type of stuff before but with some practice you can learn to use them both because I did. Find a well of particular interest on the spreadsheets ... print or copy down all the information. Now go to database and find the same well, then go to well finder and find it. Pick another one and repeat. This is how I learned to use all of this ... practice. Makes it more fun if you are looking for a well that is on your street or in your area or someone you know is a landowner.
Links for well locator and database. Remember you can get to all of these from the main website ... the first link I gave ... on the right hand side you will see four boxes with the same info ... just click on one to get started. Shale Activity is where I would start!

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
