What all goes in the pipeline

When the pipeline in my neighborhood is connected to the Kensington facility, does all of the production go in the pipeline? This would include condensate and petroleum.

In my experience, only easily separable components would go into the pipeline, this would be dry gas only. If the liquids can be readily separated on site, they'll be captured and stored on site, then hauled away for further refinement. Custody transfer occurs at the tank battery, subtraction of basic sediment and water (BS&W) is made after a quick analysis on site.

The mid stream outlets don't like any free liquids mixed with the gas, as they wreak havoc with the compressors. The gas is further processed to remove NGL's such as ethane, propane, butane, and heavier hydrocarbons before the dry gas is sold.

So a pad in this neighborhood would have 3 tanks probably.OK

My guess is that it would be a two tank battery on the pad, a fiberglass tank for water, and a steel tank for the liquid hydrocarbon. Only about a maximum of 20% of the frac fluid ever flows back to surface, the remainder gets permanently trapped in the rock. Separation equipment on a well pad usually separates only the liquids from the gas and does not further fractionate the liquid hydrocarbons like a refinery does. Heat and/or chemicals are often used to help break any oil/water emulsion in the mix, and the water is usually very saline and corrosive, hence the fiberglass tank

 

Also, thanks for your compliment. About 15 of my 30+ year career in the O&G business was onshore in the mid-continent U.S. and in the sand dunes of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East. The remainder was offshore, so I got wide exposure to drilling, completions, and facility operations.

You're welcome.I was a water well contractor for a while and researched drilling myself a gas well. I treasure accurate info. and there is a lot of misinfo out there. Sorry if this is caps I bumped something.

In our area there has not been a pad yet with smaller than 6 tank battery. The pipelines here are not just dry gas. The pipelines are going to UEO because they are not dry gas ... not enough just methane to go directly to homes for use. UEO in Kensington is a crygenic cooling plant. By cooling the product the dry gas can be separated from other contents. The dry gas can go to companies to be used in homes. The remaining gas will then go to fractionation plant in Scio for further refinement ... ethane, propane, butane etc. Tanks have condensate, oil, which are hauled away for further refinement. Marathon refinery in Canton .... and just recently by barge to facility in Kentucky. Refinery in WVA too ... Husky I believe but not positive. They also have facilities in Oh but they are in NW Lima, Toledo area so too far.

If you want to see what some of the wells in Columbiana have for equipment Mrugala just recently had it's tank battery, separator etc installed. It is on Teegarden just off Depot. The Teegarden Pipeline is going in nearby Roy D is on Winona off depot just up the street from Mrugala. It is a little more difficult to see. Also Jan Paul off Rt 9 on Speidel has its equipment and pipeline being completed. It is tough to see this wells equip unless you look at the right time. It is somewhwt hidden behind the berm.

No just live near it and drive by on the way to work. Our unit will be hooked up to Millport pipeline nearby.

Congrats, when will your unit be hooked up?  Seems like most of Columbiana wells are finally going to be hooked up.

If, for example Antero has contracted with Markwest for processing gas in their Seneca refrigeration plant (to remove NGL's?), then what is the function of the three processing plants being built by E2/Crosstex in the same general area?  Will these be large (multiple well) "onsite" refrigeration units?  If yes, what will be going on at Markwest?
