What are they doing?

I have been seeing a helicopter with what looks to be a long cable or hose with a round ball shaped thing at the end of the cable, flying around the properties whrer I live. Does anyone know what they may be doing? Does it have to do with siesmic testing?

I also had the helicopter over my head on Sunday afternoon, he was waving to me..I have many seismic testing boxes on my property and I believe they were taking readings from them..

Do you have a power line or gas line right away by you?  If so I know the utility companies sometimes use a saw dangling from a helicopter to trim the treeshttp://www.google.com/imgres?q=tree+trimming+with+helicopter&hl...
