??? Which is cleaner -- COAL vs. NATURAL GAS --- ????

There's a lot hype over how bad natural gas extraction is but what about coal .

From what I see and know coal is much more destructive to ,

1. the landscape , take the hardwoods and give pine -really ?

2. the loss of topsoil .

3. the water , surface , ground , and streams 

4. our homes , settling , cracking walls , property value .

 Being that we live on the surface of our planet my vote is the coal !

The key word is keeping the administration out ! I don't understand much about coal other than what I have seen  but it's a driving force . 

I would like to learn as much as I can about coal .

Didn't the Germans find a way to make diesel fuel from coal ?
