Who Is George P. Mitchell?

You may know that he was the person who, with genius and perseverance, “cracked the code” in how to economically drill shale source rocks (turning them into oil & gas reservoirs).

If all you know about the man is that one fact; you know very little about an American hero.

The son of Greek immigrants.

A WWII veteran.

A graduate of Texas A&M in Petroleum Engineering with a minor in Geology.

Founder of Mitchell Energy (now a part of Devon Energy).

Founder of The Woodlands, a planned community near Houston.

Along with his wife Cynthia, the Mitchells shared their wealth and success in many ways; their generosity has touched and continues to touch so very many.

George P. Mitchell just might be one of the best examples of what it can be to be an American; an example too few know about, too few emulate.
