Why isn't Enervest drilling horizontal clinton wells in Ashtabula County???

One would think with the success Enervest is having with the horizontal Clinton wells in other areas they would do the same in Ashtabula County being they own most of the Clinton wells there.

Could they be waiting for the same reason as the Utica Point Pleasant?

Great question.

Problem is only the BOD knows the real answer.

My hunch is (what it's always been) that they must be making plenty of money elsewhere and having a good time horse trading in the meantime, as it appears to me they can afford to wait.

The commodity they have control over is sold to a captive lot of consumers.

They'll only sell what they own when they get what they want for it - what ever it is - leaseholds or developed production.

They must be rolling in dough - as I've written quite a few times earlier.

All as always only in my humble opinion.

Would like to see things start popping.

Considering the new pipe scheduled to be installed along 11 and the Velocys - Pinto gas to liquid plant we might see some more leasing / acquisitions / Joint Ventures / development in the not too distant future.

Standing by.

I think all that really needs to happen is for them to decide to go get it and develop the required infrastructure to deal with the production encountered myself.

How much of it can they / do they want to sell and how long do they want to wait to put it out there on the market ?

I think the ball is in their court and has been all along !

Just my opinion restated for the umpteenth time however - always remember that !

I'm with you Joseph. I agree 100 percent. I just had to throw that little tidbit of humor in there.

I really believe Enervest is going to play a huge part in the development of Ashtabula County when they decide the time is right.

Oh and this is just my opinion like everyone else who writes on here.

It's actually a lot easier of an answer than you think.  EnerVest has four horizontal permits in Stark in Nimishillen Twp.  That's the northernmost extent of the East Canton Oil Field.  Ashtabula Clinton is all gas, all the time.  EnerVest is drilling in Stark because that's where they're most likely to find more oil.  If horizontal Clinton wells are going to work it's going to be because they're oil-focused.  At current prices it's hard to imagine that a horizontal Clinton gas play is economical.

Thanks Dexter, One thing I don't understand though. You say Ashtabula Clinton is gas all the time.

My family has 5 wells in Trumbull and Ashtabula that were drilled in the 70's and 80's. I thought they were Clinton wells but maybe not. Once per year we get a check for a load of oil from each well. I'll have to dig up the old lease's and see if I could figure it out. Thanks again.

Getting some associated oil isn't unusual, but the wells produce an overwhelming gas to oil ratio.  In Stark, in the East Canton Oil Field, the wells are predominantly oil and as such are attractive if extraction proves feasible.

Well I guess that's why I'm on here to learn. Just wish it were a little more positive news for the North.

Better to know the facts then waiting for something that's not going to happen.

Thank You for explaining.

Let's not discount the rich condensate factor.

Don't know how the Clinton in Ashtabula County fares as far as condensate is concerned - do you Dex ?

The Utica is in the rich condensate and oil zones as I've read reported here on numerous references but, I've been wondering about Clinton condensate all along.

Would that factor into horizontal Clinton developments in Ashtabula County ?

I've never heard of any driller getting any marketable condensate from the Clinton.  Remember, rich condensate is little more than very light oil that has cooked for longer than regular crude.  Clinton sandstone is very different than a shale.  Its thermal maturity is not determined by the same factors as a shale and its deposition is quite different.

Thanks Dexter.
