XTO has retired 2 well pads and will do 2 more next year in eastern Lycoming Co. Pa.  Different stories are around as to why.  One person who had a well pad was told his well had 1.8 daily production and XTO doesn't keep any well less than 2.0.??  Does that make sense?  Also a Contractor who reclaims the pad indicated there could be as many as 25 pads to go.

It appears that Pa's Dept. of Environmental Protection   is involved.  The one pad was built on farmland and now is ready for spring planting.  Another person wanted to keep the pad area for his use but was told it had to be reclaimed

A well pad needs to be reclaimed once all active drilling permits have been used or expired for a particular pad. Reclaiming is just reducing the size of the well pad back to as small as possible to still operate the wells. The DEP wants to return as much land back to it's original state as possible, hence reclamation. Production doesn't matter, even if a well is not very good as long as it's making gas it wouldn't make sense to plug it. Reclamation does not equal plugging and abandoning a well.
