I live on 14 acres in Loyalsock Township (Log Run Road) and G-Veritas met with us a couple months ago, as they said they would be coming through to do some seismic testing.  We haven't seen them yet but I assume they will arrive whenever they finish up whatever they are currently working on.  Although no one has a crystal ball, does anyone have a hunch as to when a well may be drilled in the area, brought online and connected to a pipeline and I would actually see some income?  We are only about a half-mile from the Transco pipeline.  Logistically and as far as the infrastructure goes, we seem to be in a good place.  I'm just curious about a timeline as to when this will all come together.  3 years?  5 years?  10?

Chris, unfortunately there are too many factors to really answer that question. Depending on what your lease terms are - the bonus payment, auto-renew, etc.. Natural gas price has a lot to do with it as well, the liquids rich gas in the southwest part of the state is more lucrative to the energy companies now with the depressed natural gas price. Even if you are in a good place logistically, they may still not drill or they may drill and shut-in the well, so you will be held by production and paid a pretty small rate depending what is in your lease. I would follow to see if you are in a unit or if any permit has even been issued for your land, they have a year to drill once it has been issued so that can give you some indication of their timetable.
As Matt replied, they are putting their drilling dollars where they get liquids; for example, Anadarko is focusing more on the Eagle Ford/Woodbine in South Texas because they get oil and condensate.  In essence, their need for cash is driving this based upon better returns elsewhere.  Also, they are now realizing that their are localities that are better (even within the county), so they are trying to be more exacting on where to drill .  The Veritas work is part of that "being methodical".  Barring some change in gas price, I would estimate 3-5 years on Lycoming county getting very busy.
I know Anadarko is actively drilling in Cascade Township and they have started a new pipeline.  My understanding is the pipeline should be complete late 2011 or early 2012 with those wells on line.
2-3 years max.

yes rigs are move'n to liquid, but canda rigs are move'n in to fill those places.  just cuz you get a rig means NOTHING.... they may tie you and your lease up for a decade.  it's not when they drill it's when you come on line.

Thanks for the replies.  I guess there are no real definitive answers and it can't (and shouldn't) be rushed.  They'll probably hit the easy stuff 1st ( State Forest) with no homes to work around and then get to us guys later.  As the world economy comes back, I assume the demand for energy, including natural gas, will increase.  As a diesel driver, I'm feeling it already!
homes are nothing to worryabout.  forget what is over the ground and look at what is below.

Again, think out of your own mind and reason.   You are a gas company, money is no issue.

besides the state land is not so easy unless you know 100% that the state owns the minral rights.
I see some stakes and ribbons down on the lower part of Log Run Road.  Same thing out on Route 973 East, pretty much due north of Log Run.  There are rumors about a pipeline coming through.  Any word?

Seneca Resources is bringing a pipeline down from the DCNR tract 100 just north of Rose Valley Lake.  It will run right through your area.  They plan to have the pipeline operation by this fall and will accept foreign gas (gas from other companies).  If this is close to you I would guess this would make your chances much better of getting drilled.  Who are you leased with?  I would call them and ask them what their plans are for your property.

Feel free to call me if you would like to discuss further.

We were with Great Lakes but they sold to Range Resources.  I thought they'd be here 6 months ago doing the seismic testing but nothing so far.
G-Veritas called this week said they plan to do the seismic testing soon!
G- Veritas and another company (from Cornell) both sent documents (Eldred Township) wanting to do seismic - sent agreements to sign/not signed
Just keep your eyes open for the right kind of flags... Low flying helicopters.. Many new faces driving slow in your area.. And eventually strange electronic devices beside the road. But anything can change
