Survey stakes

I live real close to Damascus and we have some stakes in the ground and I am just wondering if these are for seismic testing or maybe something else. I didn't get a chance to talk to the guys that were putting them in.  Here is a picture of one that is in our woods.

Can you tell me where you found the stakes please. I have property on Georgetown Damascus Road, about 1 mile south of town. Thanks...

These stakes are about a half a mile straight north from where Buck road meets Georgetown Road.
