5 billion gallons sounds like a lot but think of it this way.

 

An acre inch of rain is ~27,000 gallons. Most of Ohio averages 36-38 inches of rain per year.  That means in a year's time about 1,000,000 gallons of water falls on every acre of Ohio. 5 Billion gallons is less then 10 square miles of rain water in a state of over 44,000 square miles. 

 

 

good point. i think Ohio was blessed with an abundant supply of water. the last few years we have had above average rainfall.

Interesting article but why doesn't Harper just say upfront she's against drilling?
