What would be the best way to find out if you own the mineral rights to your land?

Hire a company to run title for you. Shouldn't cost more that $350.00 in my opinion.
Go to the County Assessment Office and ask to see the Assessment card for your property. If someone else has the mineral rights it will show who holds them. Ask the clerk who holds the lease. If they can't locate it go to the Recorders office, they will tell you how to look up the lease holder. Copies of the records vary with what gets reproduced, range from 25 cents a page to a couple of dollars.
I wish it was that easy... But many times you have to search the deeds all back to the mid 1800's looking for whats called "reservations" And even some reservations don't actually hold the mineral rights.

Also many times the heirs have died and their children died and the mineral interests have split many times, for example I am working 7 acres with over 130 mineral owners.. I would be the happiest person on earth if the assessment office gave me all their names :-)

Good luck
