I've heard from multiple sources (people involved in the industry one way or another) there's a fault in western Guernsey that drillers are trying to avoid.
Does anybody know specifics about this, and how big the effected area might be, east-west, north-south? I'm assuming the KWGD group is taking acreage from all parts of Guernsey without exceptions. Might the winning bidder reject land that's near this fault?
I don't want to stress the negative (there is no shortage of good news out there), just following-up on what seems like a relevant and potentially important piece of information. The DNR oil/gas window map does show a long fault running from southwest Guernsey to southeast Coshocton.

One of the best things about the KWGD group is that the winning bidder has to take all .. can't cherry pick from the acreage. This is a point that has been voiced many times within the group. I'm not a geologist but have seen the DNR map. With all the testing done over the last few years you would think they have a pretty good idea where it is. I do know that the three horz wells permited in Gue now are on the west side.
Here is a direct link to the ODNR map.
That's a good point re the permits, Steve. Which makes me wonder if the fault's impact is limited in that you get 1/2 mile from the fault and it's not a problem. Or maybe (hopefully) not a problem period. Either way, sounds like it certainly isnt an issue for the KWGD group. Good to know. I haven't been able to come to any of the meetings to this point, but hope to attend on Wednesday.
Maybe the fault line would only be a problem for an injection well. not a horiz. well in utica.? dont want no earthquakes, you know.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
