Rex Energy

Rex Energy just tested my water for a new well that they are putting in, the "J. Anderson well".  I decided to map out their lease holdings around me.  It looks like I am the only Gulfport lease surrounded by Rex Energy and Oxford Oil. It will be interesting to see if Rex starts force pooling other companies.

I wonder why they put the first 2 wells right on top of the Rockies Express pipeline?

Curious that they named the well after the old landowner from 75 years ago J.Anderson not the current landowner Capstone Holdings.

The maps are very easy to make.  I would be happy to teach you if you are interested.  I start with the Tax Parcel Map to figure out who owns the land and then add well information from the ODNR Well Search.  Then I draw the maps in Google Earth using the ADD PLACE-MARK  ADD POLYGON, and ADD PATH tools located in the upper left hand corner of Google Earth.  Without actually going to the County Courthouse and looking up each property I don't know who owns the lease until they drill a well.  If you could help me with that information then we could make a more complete map of Millwood TWP.

The new ODNR map viewer has the parcel information such as owner and acreage.

I'm not at all familiar with using the Tax Parcel Map or ODNR Well Search data that Philip provided links for and was hoping that perhaps he would give me some insight into effectively utilizing this material for my work in Guernsey County. I have constructed several maps using the Guernsey County plat book and PowerPoint, but I'd like to learn about any other ways that are out there to assist me in various parcel research.

At any rate, I will continue to play around with the resources that Philip has provided to see what sort of progress I can make without outside assistance. I certainly appreciate the information!

These maps are very time consuming to make.  It maybe more cost effective to buy a subscription to a map service such as Shale Navigator.  But if want to learn how to do it yourself I will try and give a tutorial.  The first thing you should do is read the Ohio Well Maps thread.  BICS has written a program that automates the making of Google Earth maps.  I use his map as a starting point for my maps.

This is how I use the ODNR Well Search.  First I click on the + sign next to Reports.  Then I click on Permit and Plug List.  Then I click on the down arrow next the Application Issue Date window and select >= Greater Than or Equal.  Then I select a date in the window right next to that.  In this case I chose 1/1/2013.  Then I click on the down arrow next to County and select Equal, then select GUERNSEY in the next window.  Then I do the same thing for MILLWOOD TWP.  I could also refine the search by operator and application type if want to.  Then I click on the REPORT button and review all of the permits issued in Millwood since 1/1/2013.  Below each permit is a link to a Google Map of the well location with coordinates.  You can cut and paste the coordinates into the Google Earth map that you are making.

The Guernsey Tax Parcel Map is more user friendly than the ODNR Well Search.  First I zoom in on Millwood TWP.  Then I select  Imagery with Labels  from the Basemap button.  Then I zoom in all the way and click on whatever parcel that I am interested in.  The property lines seem to be shifted to the west about 50' but you can easily see real lines based on the fence lines.
