Hi All,

I am trying to understand the whole concept of signing up your land for a gas lease. If you sign on with one of the companies (Shell, HilCorp, etc.), are you surrendering your mineral rights only under the land? Can you lose your home? What is the purpose of the Bonus sign up money?

Sorry for the basic questions, but like I said, I am new to all this.

Thanks

I am new to all of this as well and believe me, the people I know that have signed aren't too open to sharing their information. I know someone in Pulaski who signed through an attorney for 2700, but I don't know what company they signed with. I think my neighbors signed with Shell at some "signing event" last year. One neighbor with over 20 acres was approached a couple years ago with a 1500/acre offer. He held out until this year and I think he signed with Shell for 3000/acre.

I'm not sure about Lawrence County, but in Butler County you can check the courthouse records on-line to see exactly who has signed a lease with what company. All the leases are recorded under the company name and the mineral rights owner's name.

Things in Lawrence county have been a bit quite lately. I think Shell and Hilcorp have leased enough acreage to get started and are now trying to produce. I dont know why people who signed are being tight lipped, they don't have private information. They might just not pay attention to GMS any more.
