CX meeting Jan 23rd at 7PM at the Grove City High school auditorium for MtJackson4 members.

Will somebody please let us know what is said at this meeting?

Sam, the "Shell won't work with groups" information was first put out by a poster named john on January 9th in the thread immediately below this one; "Did Halcon pay..."  He had attended the meeting in New Lebanon on the 7th of January and that information came out of that meeting.  Jim Litwinowitz as much as confirmed his comments on January 11th in the same thread.  You'll have to back a few pages in that thread to find those posts.  Edit:  Actually, on page 7 of that thread and the 4th and 6th posts from the top.

Thank you Sam. The Shell comment I made was based on info I received from the landman from Shell who was at my house a few weeks back and then confirmed by M&P attorney in a face to face conversation last might at the meeting.

My comment on shell being the "dominant player in the area" is in reference to my understanding of what is going on in my own immediate back yard in sandy creek twp and my personal situation in regards to what is surrounding me. I also believe I saw on a map presented last night, if I understood it correctly, that Shell has ALL of Butler county. I apologize and did not mean to be misleading or claim to be someone who is anything other than a learner who is learning as he goes and hoping to help others do the same. I am speculating that Halcon may turn into a flipper and sell what they have to Shell in my neighborhood as leasing is spotty around here with Old Vista leases (which Shell bought already) ,new Halcon Leases and old Gas Aquisition leases that I am pretty sure have been sold to Halcon. At any rate....I am considering all options and one of them may be to request out of the CX group and use my choice of council to negotiate with Shell.

That being said I highly encourage those who have contiguous lands put together with CX stay the course and ride things out another 6 months  for sure.

Brett: Thanks! I think I understood your post correctly even before your clarification. My land is in Venango County. In 2012 both Shell and Halcon walked away from a number of "leases" in Venango County. Halcon has a well in Venango County yet to be fracked plus 3 additional permits My speculation is that Shell may well ultimately purchase Halcon. Conceivably Shell might even purchase Range Resources. Vista also has a large presence in Venango County and might seek a joint venture with Shell in Venango County similar to their recently concluded joint venture with Shell for Vista's Mercer County acreage. If that were to happen then Shell would be the dominant player but would have to fill in some acreage in various places to form drilling units of appropriate sizes.  I was not taking a shot at M&P / CX or at any of the other landowner groups or attorney / landowner groups. I was just speculating that under my hypothetical, such groups might have little to offer, if Shell really is unwilling to work with  such landowner or attorney landowner groups.??!! I guess we will just have to see what develops over time. What is best for a particular landowner may not be best for others. Perhaps the February O&G conference in Houston will clarify things??

That's cool Sam!! Your conduct on this site has been that of high quality character and your input has been very valuable to us all. I didn't think for a second you were taking shots at anyone....... I was appreciative of your feedback and wanting to make sure I did not post any bogus info that would be misleading. I agree that it will be interesting to see what happens once the O&G conventions take place and budgets for companies like Shell come in for the year.

All this "lawsuit" talk is somewhat interesting.  I have not heard of any lawsuits filed in Mercer County or federal court in Pittsburgh against Halcon.  If anybody has any details on such a lawsuit, I would be interested in hearing them.  I know there is a lot of talk about M/P and CX, but what happened to Adapt?  Were they not also signing leases in Mercer?  Were these ever paid?

As with anything there are more questions than answers. Hopefully this "lawsuit" will become newsworthy. Meanwhile the future still looks bright especially with Halcon out of the way. I hope they are bought out by some energy company that is reputable.

Brett summarized the meeting very well. I believe M&P said they would post the Halcon "meteor" letter on their website, I guess Halcon had to reach real deep in their bag of excuses to pull out the meteor theory. Time to sit back and wait for Mercer County well reports to come in and boost the bonus offers.

Mr. Brink makes a good point. If a lawsuit has been filed against Halcon in  Mercer County, such suit should be readily discovered by going to the prothonotary's office and checking for Halcon in listed index of defendants. I am not sure how one would determine whether a suit has been filed in Federal Court? If such lawsuit exists, it most likely would have been filed in Pittsburgh. Lawsuits are public records and the prothonotary's clerical staff should be able to look this up. Another option would be to call the local newspaper as they should be interested in this story, if there is a story?

Sam, I can tell you from experience that the press is watching all of these cases. I know this from the exposure we got when we litigated a case in federal court against Chesapeake on behalf of some Beaver County landowners last year.  I have access to the electronic docket in federal court and I can tell you that there has not been a lawsuit filed yet.  The folks have to remember one thing:  While the press can illustrate a problem, the press cannot solve it.  That is for the judicial system.
