Apparently, they have started leasing in Wayne, Medina, and Ashland counties.  They are using Quebec Energy, a Canadian subsidiary.  An interesting development, given their pedigree. They INVENTED hydraulic fracturing.

Quebec isn't from Canada, they're from Dubai via Denver.  And I heard that Devon fired them.
Perhaps. But not according to this source.
I think the source may be incorrect. I know that Devon has been leasing in those counties for a few months now. I also know that they pulled out of Ashland because landowners wanted bigger dollars than were reasonably possible.  Devon in Ashland, Wayne and Medina is sort of old news.
Yeah, there's a lot of old news on here.  Perhaps I'm guilty this time.  You sound like someone who has more timely sources than your average Ohio landowner.  Where did you hear they pulled-out of Ashland, out of curiosity?
I know a guy, we'll leave it at that. I'm told that Ashland landowners want too much money up front and Devon is happy to simply buy out the producers and use that land in the meantime. Smart play by them.
Everybody's favorite source - "a guy".  Since my interest in Ashland county has its limits, I'll leave it at that too.
Weird how secretive this business can be, right?
And who is worth listening to on a message board...
I mean, the anonymity factor makes it hard to spell out to people exactly what one knows and how one knows it. As with everything else in life this will play out at its own pace.

Also, Devon Energy did not invent hydraulic fracturing.

Devon BOUGHT the company that cracked the code for hydraulic fracturing of shales - they did not invent hydraulic fracturing, it has been around a long time before, just not used effectively in shales until Mitchell went broke a few times trying to do it on the Barnett Shale in Texas.  Devon bouht Mitchell.
