Does anybody know how one can have a landman to check if there is natural gas in their land?

I just found out about the Marcellus Shale formation, and was wondering if there is any forward movement for drilling near Bethel. I own 5 acres near Hunter Lake and would be interested on leasing it.

Does anybody know whether their land has gas?  I would really like it if gas companies come over the Sullivan County...as well as Town of Mamakating...If anybody knows or hears please let everybody know.

Anyone have any comments on drilling coming to NY by the end of 2012? Do you think we can talk a gas company into coming into Sullivan County, esp. the Fremont, Delaware,Callicoon area?

I belong to a landowner's group in Sullivan county, and what I've been told is; there were 2 wells drilled in the area that were productive enough to pursue further. It's possible that only the western part of the county will be drilled, but I hope they decide to let everyone benefit and drill in the entire county.

I have lived around gas drilling and fracking for 12-13 years now in Dallas, TX, and I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has regarding what it's like to coexist with gas drilling.

From a recent article about fracking in NY State ( note there's no mention of Sullivan County which confirms some other information indicating that there will be little or no drilling there. )

The real drilling action will be in Broome, Tioga, Chemung and Steuben counties, along the Pennsylvania border, where the Marcellus shale is several thousand feet below the ground, said Pennsylvania State University geology professor Terry Engelder. The shale at 4,000 feet contains more than twice the gas at 2,000 feet, he said.

This isn't the type of news we need. Can't those pinheads go back to researching important stuff like the sex life of the Dodo Bird?

Yet another study by researchers at Penn State University put out last week looks at the economic impacts of the shale gas boom on local municipalities. The study shows it’s basically a wash – no real benefits, no net costs. One reason for that is leasing and royalty income is not taxed. And in Susquehanna County, local officials say they’ve seen no increase in income tax collections because out-of-state residents, who work in the industry, do not pay taxes there. The study found that in Washington County, more gas workers are actually residents. So those local communities have seen an increase in tax revenues.
