DUX Petroleum LLC a SCAM?? See general discussions "Help Research DUX Petroleum LLC"

There is a thread with about 80 postings about DUX Petroleum. If you go to general website and scroll down to thread "Help Research DUX Petroleum LLC", the postings are down right scary. Supposedly DUX has signed up 40,000 acres in Washington County, Ohio. Hard to believe this is true and hopefully it is not true. Read the postings, then call your friends, your neighbors, your local newspaper so that Washington County citizens may avoid being taken advantage of by DUX which appears to be a shell company with little or no financial assets. Apparently some attorney whose last name is Wells is promoting DUX. I do not know this person but he has declined to answer any of the pertinent questions posed about DUX on the above referenced thread.

I went to their website again. Not so much as even a phone #. They say they are an exploration and production company, a leader in the industry, and adhere to the highest standards. Prior research reveals that this is a one man company and that the name of the head honcho is some 31 year-old guy named Adam Popejoy. Supposedly DUX operates in 20 states. I have made some inquiries and can find nobody who has even heard of the company. How does DUX have 55 years of experience when the company has been incorporated only since October of 2012? Why would anyone give this shell company another 120 days to see if they can flip one's land to a real O&G company at a big profit? If the Triad well is good, there likely will be real O&G companies willing to pay you top dollar to lease your land!! Do you really want to give a bunch money to a shell company with no assets, money that would otherwise be yours. I think Attorney John Wells needs to answer the questions I have posed and a whole lot of others. I implore any of you who have signed with DUX not extend your agreement with DUX until you have consulted your own attorney! I will close by saying I have a nice piece of property in western Pennsylvania not currently leased. I e-mailed DUX some time ago inquiring about the company and its interest if any in leasing my land. You guessed it, I got no answer. This assuredly is  a real puzzle. They are a leader in the industry and they have a website with no named individuals and no corporate phone number. Maybe Michael Householder or DrillBABY can answer some questions!

My guess it was an extension....which we declined!  We are in the process of trying to get the acres released so we can move on.  Ludlow township seems to be a dead zone that no one wants.  They have leased in every township around us...but nothing here.  UGH!! Frustrating!!

Jeni: Just be patient. I know that is hard to do because any many folks need money. I am in Venango County Pennsylvania but most of the activity near me is next door in Mercer County. It is very early in the O&G gas development phase and many companies have more acreage than they can conceivably drill for some time to come. Also, they do not want to produce more gas than they can sell. If the Federal Government allows the export of gas as LNG, prices will go up. Gas can be liquefied and shipped overseas where prices are much  higher. There is also the matter of infrastructure which is lacking in certain areas. Finally although some wells are on line and producing gas, most of these wells are still classified by O&G companies as exploratory wells. When you get an offer, please sit down with your own lawyer before signing. If you were represented by Mr. Wells or belonged to a group which he headed, please ask him some of the questions I have posed in regard to DUX. See my response to a post by GG this morning on the main site. It is posted to a thread about DUX. In fact the whole thread is worth reading. Best wishes. There are worse things than not having a lease at this time.

It is really hard to be patient!  And we do have a person...and an attorney that is supposed to be..."working" on it. We are actually a small O&G production company ourselves. And I keep telling myself that the longer we wait the higher the price may be.  But that isn't always the case.  I know that the gas pipe line infrastructure is somewhat lacking in this area...however they do have many in the works.

At the very least you would want to sign with a company that has a track record, has financial assets, has the capacity to drill horizontal wells and assuredly a company that has a phone #. I wish you and all the landowners in Washington County, Ohio the best of luck in eventually getting good leases. In western Pennsylvania, leasing has ground to a near halt for now. It seems that O&G companies want to employ their assets drilling some of the properties that they already have under lease. That is a disappointment for me, but something that I understand given current market conditions.

Jeni, I am sorry that you had such a bad experience with DUX Petroleum. I am afraid that there are many landowners with thousands of acres in Washington County that are going to be in the same boat. Anything you can share with GMS readers will help all of us make better informed decisions.

You mentioned that you are have a small O&G company with acreage in Ludlow Twp. Was the Ludlow Twp. acreage the only acreage you leased with DUX? Have you leased your acreage in other Townships with other companies? If so, what was your experience with them?

We do have acreage in Grandview Twp. as well.  We are working on a deal with another company at this time.  And since the deal is pending, I really cannot disclose which company.  I don't want to let the cat out of the bag and scare them away.  I can tell you, we took a low ball offer on a few hundred acres to get us by until we get the bulk leased.  I will let you all know some of the details when it is finalized and we are paid in full.

Thanks Jeni. In rereading my earlier post I realized that it could be interpreted as being far more intrusive than I intended. The intent was just to get an idea of what your leasing experience was like with other companies (did they live up to what they promised and pay on time etc.), not to learn which companies you are dealing with or the terms.

DUX claimed to have done deals with shallow well drillers in Washington County for 40,000 acres. Have you heard whether DUX honored any of those deals and paid the leases?

I have not heard whether or not they honored any of those deals.  It is my understanding that they did not ...however I could be wrong.

As far as I know we were in that 40,000 acres...and they did not pay.  They wanted to "wait and see" what another well did.  Which would have been another 90-120 days of waiting with no upfront promise payment.  We declined and asked to be released from the lease which as far as I know they did.  We have about 200 acres close to being resigned with another company.  The rest is in the works with another company.

Jeri: Please talk with your attorney and  make absolutely sure that you are released from DUX. Read the Dux agreement very carefully. It bothers me that Attorney John Wells has never answered any of the questions I have posed about Dux. I can understand why he might wish not to post to the website; but he has not provided answers to any of the landowners as far as I have been able to determine. Some time ago I e-mailed Drill BABY but received no response. He and Michael Householder both seem to believe in DUX or at least did believe in Dux at one point in time.

Anybody getting paid by DUX yet? By my calculations, the 120 days for DUX to pay on all that acreage they leased should be running out soon?  Maybe you folks who put your faith in Attorney John Wells will sign an extension giving DUX another 120 days? Forewarned is forearmed!

As I and many others warned DUX was a sham. After it failed along came John Wells with his SOEC group promoting VORTEX which sounded a lot like DUX II.  Vortex appears to be another Zombie company with no assets, no telephone number, no drilling equipment, no drilling history. Probably a bunch of suckers signed up with this outfit. Probably some of these suckers are some of the ones who signed leases in favor of DUX !!
