"I made this request with the expectation that our cherished fishing and hunting rights would be respected and protected," said Senator Manchin in the letter. Manchin said he received an overwhelming response to the prospective National Park designation, but that many people were concerned about the ability to hunt and fish on the public land.

Manchin also requested that the land wouldn't be restricted from the potential development of oil and natural gas.
