For everyone's information, Ascent Resources is offering $ 7,500 per net acre and 20% gross leases in Monroe County. If any operator proposes leases in any counties of Ohio where Utica is strong, ensure you obtain those terms.

Permalink Reply by Steven A Joliat on January 11, 2026 at 10:19am The rumor mill has that this is for the parts of the county nearer the river which produces oil, gas, and condensate. Does your source have any offer reports for land in the central and western part of the county which has been producing mostly large volumes of dry gas?
Permalink Reply by Petroleum Attorney 1976 on January 11, 2026 at 11:30am Monroe and Noble Counties are currently negotiating, but my main point is that if those companies can offer such favorable terms in those areas, then counties like Carroll, Guernsey, and others should also push to negotiate similar agreements.
The Condensate and NGLs are produced from Marcellus wells as part of a stacked play. EQT recently stated they have 80,000 acres where they believe they can drill Marcellus wells in Ohio. If you look at the Ohio DNR Oil and Gas well viewer EQT has wells almost to the middle Monroe County (shows up as Rice). Of course, at this point they have not drilled any recent wells, so not proven. Gulfport and Expand have pretty much proven the area near the river so no longer a rumor, in fact Expand bought Marcellus rights from CNX, 7,500 acres for 57 million (they paid up because it is a large block and fits with their existing acreage and they are drilling very long laterals (4 miles). Expand drilled a successful well recently inland, so things are moving west, how far? too be determined.

I am surprised, as I do not see any wells drilled in that township and few in the surrounding areas.
Permalink Reply by Petroleum Attorney 1976 on February 2, 2026 at 11:18am Ascent has a few brokerage companies out taking leases for future development. They also have these brokerage companies taking leases in Franklin, Bethel and Summit townships of Monroe which sits right beside Elk Twp of Noble Co.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
