Ferlo's foolishness - a fracking moratorium for a state where it's paying 71% above average.
A proposed moratorium on the issue of drilling and hydraulic fracturing permits in Pennsylvania is as foolish as it gets but that’s not important to the sponsor, Senator Jim Ferlo, who is throwing a bone to his special interest friends on the left.
Senator James Ferlo, a Pittsburgh politician previously best known for advocating the Commonwealth create a single-payer health care system, made a big splash the other day by calling for legislation that would impose a three-year moratorium on issuing hydraulic fracturing permits in Pennsylvania. Media eager to fan the flames of controversy ran stories on it everywhere, which, of course, was the whole point for Ferlo, who has been previously thought to have his eyes on the Pittsburgh Mayor’s office. There is zero practicality to Ferlo’s proposal and even less likelihood the measure will go anywhere, but appealing to your special-interest base is good politics.
There are so many problems with the Ferlo proposal, one wonders how he delivered it with a straight face.
