I know of a few locations for the planned "appraisal wells" that BP is planning for 2013.  Vienna, Hartford & kinsman.  Does anyone know of other locations and if they are only vertical for test - can they be drilled horizontally for production later? Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help us learn.

The Geatches well in Milton twp. (Mahoning Co.) was at first only a vertical test well.  They had geologists look at the core samples that they pulled from the hole. They later came back and drilled horizontally, so it can be done.  This well is only a mile from Trumbull County.

Thought some of you might find this interesting:  Brugler well in Burghill

So this is a Carrizo Well and not Halcon or BP. Carizzo had two permits issued in Guernsey County as well. Does anyone know if they have drilled any of these wells yet? Their website shows that they were concentrating on the Marcellus in PA, they may be focusing on Ohio Utica.

Dave

Thanks for the info Craig. Do you know anything about Carizzo's Guernsey permits?

Dave

Thanks David

A lot of wells in Ohio have first been permitted as a verticle well.  They have then re-permitted them as a horizontal well.  Hope this helps.

MJ-

It's relatively straightforward to re-enter a temporarily abandoned or suspended well and drill a horizontal. The abandoned or suspended well would have a series of cement plugs to cover any zones cored or tested, any casing shoes, or to isolate any fresh water zones. The plugs are sometimes weight tested or pressure tested to ensure that they do not leak or move; they are separated by mud.

When ready to re-enter, the plugs are drilled out. A variety of tools and techniques exist to turn a well from vertical to horizontal, regardless is starting from open hole or casing.

Thanks Brian,

I really appreciate your willingness to educate us masses and others - sharing your knowledge in this field.  I Acknowledge your many years in the O/G Business and am very thankful as a landowner to have this input.

Any idea where in Kinsman, MJ?

I saw some new markers on my road, and wondered if that is what it was.

I know of one out on 87.  Rosco farm.  Havent been by there personally.  Word of mouth

I have heard of a permit issued on Webber coie road.
