It seems as though I have gone from receiving semi-regular calls on my small tract to me wondering if I paid my phone bill.  Is anyone getting actively pursued at the moment?  If so, who is currently knocking on doors and more importantly, who is actively paying?  I am guessing I will likely have to wait until the next wave when gas prices pick up a bit.

Yes, selling all or part.  The property has been listed for sale since July 2012. 

Answering in order of replies:

James, I have a little bit of property. An outfit from Canada did the 3d testing. I can't recall the name now, Elexco, maybe? The land agent's name was Nino Augusto. Very personable fellow. Was Seneca concerned about you selling your surface property, or were they interested in buying it?

Hi Dan. Yeah, southern elk seems dead right now. I see one rig, I think above caledonia. There is supposed to be a few more going in, in that area. Other than that, northern elk is seeing a LOT of activity very near my shop. Several wells in and going in, and a new pipeline under construction. Seeing flares has become routine.

Right about now I am wishing I had that crystal ball and signed when things were hot.  With the price of natural gas the rigs are moving to the liquids and it seems logical that those that did sign in our neck of the woods and get paid already may have a decent shot of their leases expiring and getting another  decent paycheck if/when things heat up again.  I am a little disappointed that I found myself getting caught up in all of the inflated figures being hyped at the time.

I agree, and I know of others who wish they had signed as well. One has to be careful though, when doing that. Companies can put you in hbp mode sometimes before the lease expires, so you have to be very careful in the wording of your lease to prevent that. I know of one person in particular this has happened to, and they really regret signing an early lease. Now he's stuck. But, you're right. If your lease was set up properly, you could net more than one bonus. On a more positive note, I know a landowner in northern elk who has a lot of acreage there. During the late winter they had the largest land rig in the US drilling the utica for oil in that location. If they are successful, you never know, maybe things will shift and heat up for utica oil drilling instead. Who knows.

Anyone hear anything about the Utica well Brad referenced above?

No, but I heard Lycoming county is doing well now.  I just received my first royalty check from my well in Greene County.  It took a few years, but the weight was worth it.

I don't how many Jay twp landowners have read this, but there was an article in the Tri county sunday news rag about a meeting in Jay twp regarding future EQT fracking in the watershed. It said people were enraged at the meeting. Everyone seems to believe the hype, happily provided by the fear selling media. The supervisor said that they had to decide whether they wanted to put in place a moratorium on the watershed area, or the entire township, and that he was looking for feedback. I don't understand this at all, why would a township wide moratorium even enter the equation? I wrote him a three page letter expressing my opinion, and showing statistics on water contamination complaints in the US according to two anti fracking, anti gas, anti oil, anti everything energy, websites. In my letter I mentioned that, according to those websites, between 1996 and 2013, 855 gas industry complaints were listed on the site. Approximately 231 were water related. Some were in PA. During those years, they said over 40,000 wells were drilled in the US, and out of the the 855 complaints, NOT ONE was associated with EQT! Even those sites couldn't come up with a single transgression to support the outrage being seen here.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've just about had it with various groups of people telling us what we can and can't do on our properties. I don't know when they are voting on this because the article was a week old when I was told about it, and it took me a few days to do research. If you are a landowner in Jay Twp with gas rights, I advise you to contact Fran Gustafson, Jay twp supervisor, and voice your opinion before it's too late.

BA Just went through the same situation in are area. Township zoning ordinances can not pre-empt DEP regulations, DEP has absolute control over all PA water sheds. Best to stop these ordinances while still in the drafting stage by the planning commission. Hire a good oil and gas attorney familiar with DEP regulations. Costly at this point, but cheaper in the long run. Best of luck Been 6 months and still not completed in are area.
