Anyone ever figure out exactly where the Pinto Plant is going or if they're still going to start construction this spring? I wouldn't mind taking a Sunday drive to check it out.

Permalink Reply by Mark McGrail on April 26, 2014 at 2:25am I haven't heard anything new. But the initial press release stated the plant would be operational in 2016.
Supposedly the company began the initial steps late last year/early this year.
Permalink Reply by elliemae82 on April 26, 2014 at 3:55am It also said they would start construction in the spring of 2014. Just wondered if they cancelled it since everyone is saying nothing going to happen in Ashtabula County until new technology is developed.
Permalink Reply by elliemae82 on April 26, 2014 at 4:02am The other question I forgot to mention, what ever happen about all the talk of a pipeline in Ashtabula running along Rt 11? Has this all been put on hold since they got bad results from the test wells?

Permalink Reply by elliemae82 on April 26, 2014 at 8:09am Yeah I think everyone pretty much lost hope for anything in Ashtabula County

Whereas things don't look good for Utica in Ashtabula with current technology/prices, his plant might still be build (if they can get financing/permitting, etc...).
A GTL plant (making liquid fuels out of dry gas) only needs connection to a big natural gas pipeline and it also needs good infrastructure (rail, interstate oil pipelines) to ship the product.
For these reasons it doesn't have to be close to the actual wells.
However what gas to liquid plants need is a really low natural gas price (to make the process economic).
The higher prices of this winter, might have delayed the decision or investment for this reason....

Permalink Reply by elliemae82 on April 27, 2014 at 4:44am Jim, I'm pretty sure that's probably a different operation. There's supposed to be a plant being built in Ashtabula Co. somewhere. The newspapers said they were going to start construction in the spring of 2014. Just wondered if they started? Thanks for the reply.

I usually don't make it so far north, so I don't know anything about the status of the construction.
What I meant with my reply is that the plant is not really related to the success of Utica wells in Ahstabula county (since they are speculating on the Utica/Marcellus as a whole in Ohio/Pennsylvania with their project).
Based on the linked newspaper article, the plant is supposed to be built 'on an 80-acre site once part of Union Carbide’s complex on the south side of Lake Road'.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
