Are they getting oil out of the Speechy sands resevoir in Butler Co. Pa.?

Does the Speechy sands formation come into center township at all? Does this formation have oil resevoirs that can be drained with horizontal drilling? Will any of you knowledgeable people share what you know about this. It appears to be an underplayed, not too public, area to discuss. There are some drillers getting oil from this formation and I was just wondering how large an area this is. Thanks in advance for any comments.

In Venango Co. the Speechly is very high BTU'S (over 1300 ). Most are considered stripper wells, less than 1 barrel of oil per day, plus low gas flow. The Speechly in this area was drilled in the early 1900's and is a played out field. Three reasons the Speechly will not be drilled horizontal, low rock pressure, high amount of brine fluid, and loose sand formation prone to caving.

Wonder how large an area speechly covers?

U.S. Energy Exploration, out of Rural Valley, PA; did drill several horizontal wells through the Speechley Sand in Oakland Twp., Butler Co.  The Speechley Sand lies at a depth of 2,600 ft. depending on surface elevation.  I heard that their initial wells were doing 300-400 barrels of oil per day.  According to the DEP Permit activity report, they haven't permitted anything new in Butler Co. since last year.

Here in Venango Co. the Speechley is 2000' to 2200' at 2600' we would be very close to the Burkett which is an oil formation in this area.

Thanks Gas Boy and deer spotter, appreciate the input.
