Does anyone have any ideas when Cabell County will join the oil and gas race? Have 91 acres in Grant District with 2 wells. Lease up soon..

Mitchell,
Due to the number of oil and gas plays under Cabell County in the Rome Trough (16), I would expect the Oil & Gas companies to be headed down that way in a few years. Companies that miss out on the Utica and Marcellus Shale plays, in my opinion, will want to get into the Trough and brag about 16 plays for the price of one as they did in PA when one company's CEO (Range Resources from my memory) was bragging about 3 O&G plays for the price of one (the Marcellus play).
The Oil & Gas plays are a bit deeper in the Rome Trough compared to PA, WV, & OH Utica Shale, but with that much potential I would expect a company to be willing to drill down to the layers.
If your wells are producing and you are receiving a royalty the lease will go on as long as production is in progress. The other way a lease can be continued is by the Gas company sending you a check each year that you cash as an extension for another year. If no royalties are being paid you should make sure the Gas company files a "Release" in the Cabell County Courthouse to terminate the lease.
I noticed that there were leases signed in 2005 in Cabell and Wayne Counties by various land men and Oil companies but most of them should have run out. Good Luck in getting your lease terminated and Released. Some of the O&G companies are "Sticky" and don't like to let leases run out.
See you in the Cabell County Discussion Group. Ron

But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
