Despite what local officials tell you, if you're hoping for a job at a refinery, you're going to be out of luck.....Unless you have refining EXPERIENCE, you're not getting hired. Shell is not going to invest $2 billion and then hand it over to 500 folks with no experience. It just ain't gonna happen...I work in a refinery now and its much different from any job environment you can think of....First, you're gonna take an IQ test. That weeds out the morons, of which there are plenty. Then you'll take a personality test followed by a repeat of the IQ test to make sure you didn't cheat the first time.
If you're a high school dropout drooling for a Shell job, foreggettaboutit....You need to understand chemistry and you need to have math skills.....You're gonna have to pass a tough physical because climbing tall structures is part of the job....And, you'll need to wear a respirator at times....So, you heavy smokers can also forget about it. Folks looking for a Shell job are in for a rude awakening.

obama gets elected again there won't be any iq tests going on. no need for them we'll already know we're morons.
Jim as it stands now anyone looking for work may have a fairly rough time of it. A few examples that might just get a person employed at a refinery. X Military trade skills, x navy certified nuclear welders, certified high pressure welders, pipefiters, electricians , computer operations, logistic backgrounds, security details, painters, perhaps on sight fire fighters like navy damage controlmen that know oil fires.
Main thing is if your doing drugs or been a bad boy forget it.
I have been to many a power plant and you will find mostly x naval personnel employed at those plants.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale.
