Today Carrizo Oil & Gas announced that it is entering the Utica Shale Play by way of a Joint Venture with Avista Capital Partners. There are 15,000 acres involved and Carrizo is paying $1,500 per  acre for ONLY 10% interest. You do the math. What would the value per acre be for 100% interest?

Here's the link to the Baker Hughes web site where they post (each Fri. after noon) the current locations of the drilling rigs which are active in the play. When you open the link, select Ohio for the state, then select Appalachain Basin for the basin. Then hit the refresh button and the map should populate. Note that they distinguish whether the rig is targeting oil or gas. See the link below.....

Hello Randall I wanted to say thankyou for such a good job on updated information on what is transpiring now . I had a feeling AEP would get into the picture with their need to convert from coal to gas before too many more years with the EPA as it is .They have several plants that can run on coal or gas now so it will make the company much stronger and a good long term investment .

I have still not leased yet but am looking forward to where the next phase of leasing is going since this as gained such popularity now in Ohio . It must be much better than we are led to believe with the attention this is getting now for the needed development and pipeline infrastructure .

Chesapeake is very wise with their plans ,they secured a great position of supply ,now they will help with developing the transmission ability to sell the gas and be in the middle of the liquified natural gas sales as well . Not to mention the oil profits that are huge as well.

This is headed to be like the old time gold rushes of days gone by .This will offer great employment for welders and many other tradesman here in the valley if the workers are used from our area .

Thankyou ,keep up the good work , again and Have a great holiday .

You make a great point about this being a windfall for local tradesmen. I just talked an acquaintance of mine into going back to trade school so he could learn a few new tricks that might help him and his family in the coming years.

Mick, Thanks. Let's keep educating/advocating for the landowners of our state. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.

The Baker Hughes web site, showing the current locations of drilling rigs has been updated. Look at the line of rigs in Carroll County. Could they be strung along a gathering pipeline? For weeks there was only 12 or 13 rigs working the play, but this week I count 15. Could be the start of the 2012 ramp-up? When you open the link, select Ohio for the state, then select Appalachain Basin for the basin. Then hit the refresh button and the map should populate.

And while I'm on, Merry Christmas to all of you Buckeye Shalers!

Here's a very nice article regarding fracking sand, which is very important to the developement of the play. Ohio is blessed with the high quality sand needed for the fracking process. This will mean more jobs and money flowing in Ohio's economy. See the link.....
