I'm a land owner in tyler and wetzel...I understand how I will reap the rewards. But how can we be sitting on 2 of the largest gas and oil deposits in the world and utility bills keep going up.

All I'm seeing is coal jobs disapearing. We can't sell our resource overseas to a higher market. We restrict the output because the price is too low but the rent for everyone has gone up. The roads are worse. Less good jobs now and our utility bills keep going up. I don't get it. Were is all the money and taxes going. How do you sell the idea to a normal person living in the trip state area when there isn't a single point that I can raise that shows them the benefit to having this wonderful resource under our feet. I'm all for this but I'm starting to question alot. I love this state and was here when no one cared about it. I am starting to lose the faith when alot of my friends are laid of coal miners and all they have to look forward to is higher rent and utility bills.

Best way to do it is to cash your check and move somewhere else LOL.

jason,

First - the coal jobs were going away anyway.

The loss of coal jobs is due to the War On Coal perpetrated by the Obama Administration.

You have Joe Manchin to thank for that and now Ms. Capito. RHINO's, for working with this Administration and against the best interests of the coal mining communities. If these two truly represented the people, and coal miners, of West Virginia, they would vote for anything this President wants until they get him and his Administration to stop the War On Coal.

Too many people believed that the shale deposits would be developed over night; and  the associated economic development along with new jobs. Instead this will take time and patience.

All the associated issues such as roads will have to be dealt with as the development moves forward. Hold your state and local legilators accountable. It's their job to assure that companies live up to the terms of the RUMA's they signed.

"Sometimes to create, one must first destroy" - Prometheus.

This administration is not interested in "shared prosperity for all", only "shared misery for all".  With the serfs dependent upon their masters for their protection and livelihood.

Obama is "fundamentally transforming" America - everyone will be a "have not" and look to government for everything.  He's "transforming" society and business just like the way Hitler tried to in WW2.  Though Hitler tried to "transform" things too fast, and the world took notice.  Obama is doing it more slowly and over time, and with the help of the mass media, is able to fool the masses.

"Climate Change, aka Global Warming" has nothing to do with the earths climate.  It has everything to do with higher taxes on everything.  The more tax you pay on something, the less money you have for other things (i.e. vehicle, house, vacation, kids, etc.).  It's a way for the government to control you, and the earths population.  Very simple, though a very hard concept for the masses to understand because critical thinking has gone out the window decades ago in our "public", err government, schools.  No one questions anything anymore.

At least Jason you are questioning things - why this?, why that? - which a lot of people don't even do.  They are more concerned with Caitlyn Jenner, or who's on "The Voice", etc.

Question everything, research everything, pull your information from multiple sources (liberal, conservative, libertarian, etc.) and put it together yourself.  In time, you'll see what is really going on.

A good primer to control is the movie "The Matrix".  You see a ton of parallels in that movie to the control going on in the world we live in today.

Good Luck!

I was in O'Hare airport Friday (Chicago) and had to suffer through announcements telling people to cover there mouths when coughing and to wash there hands to avoid passing germs. Orwellian enough to make my skin crawl! Glad to be home!
Gas boy,
You have it almost correct.
Equal misery for all, except the Ruling Class. Stalin, Mao and currently Kim jung-un. Better examples than the boogie man Hitler. Who lost!
Stalin murdered 10 million Ukrainians just for starters. Mao too many to count or even find. Kim Jong-un just razed 100,000 homes to stop any chance those citizens might think about leaving. Oh and fed his uncle to starving dogs . Wow what a close not family.
It's all to make things fair for everyone after all.

If this wind keeps blowing like it has been, I'm puttin up a roofmount wind generator by Cascade Energy in Michigan.

The 7 foot diameter fan blades with 1.5 KW generator is relatively quiet due to a band around the blade tips, as can be seen in the news footage on line, assuming it's still on their website.

The county promises to take land out of CAUV if you put up a wind generator but if it's on a building, NO DICE!

If you tie to the grid you will pay a monthly INSURANCE Bill, so I'll be staying off the grid with this one. The insurance could cost more than I can save using the wind.

Throw in some ebay purchased Sharp Solar Electric Panels, 450 Watts each, and you can have two sources of power to your inverter, next time the wind blows the power lines down across the country, while all the linemen are layed off in order to save money for the King.

A little off topic but good info for those who want to reduce their electric bills.

Many months ago my husband and I decided to look closely at our county because it was going to be changed forever.  Like all things some good will come but do remember some will have been paid ( and paid well) others will be paying.  Nothing was promised to be equal except for those who choose not to work.  Having said this I still don't want to live any where else (yet).

Lots of ridiculous replies in here.  I think it's possible to answer your question without a delusional and paranoid political diatribe.

Coal was going away already.  Obama hasn't made it any better, that is true.  Utility bills are going up because of this, I guess.  I saw a comment on here about how long it takes to build a gas fired power plant and the cost.  You're not going to see gas powered plants and/or cheap gas powered energy springing up everywhere you look in the short term.

Did someone promise you that shale development was going to transform your counties overnight?  If they did, that was a lie.  This will take time.

There should be more jobs if/when development picks up.  You nailed it when you said prices are too low right now.  Hopefully that will change and development will pick up, more locals hired, etc.  Unfortunately, a lot of these companies bring in workers from Texas, Oklahoma, etc. and don't hire as many locals as they could or should.

You complain about high rent prices, but one thing to remember is that the landlords, who are presumably locals, are the ones choosing to raise the rent and rent their properties to the oil and gas workers, and they are benefitting financially.  So it is helping them.  It does hurt the locals who need to rent, though.

The benefits of landowners' royalties, for those lucky enough to get them, are obvious.

It all takes time.  And it doesn't necessarily mean your local economy is going to do a 180.  Who knows.

thanks for your thoughts G.u. I want people.to know that I own land on the border of wetzel and tyler. So I have reaped the rewards from a.grandfather who bought a hunting camp for him and his grandson. But if I am questioning this then alot of other people are as well. I want as many people backing this as possible. I know things take time. I just worry about the voting masses. I think they need to do a better job at showing the tax payers how this is helping there state.

I agree with that for sure.  People need to get out there and vote for the politicians who will do the most to make the oil and gas activity benefit their constituents and the local economy.

I can see why you are questioning things with the current pace, too.  I kind of think that the focus is just shifting now to West Virginia.  Things were really hot in Ohio for a while, seems to be heading towards West Virginia more these days.  Best of luck with your property there, hope good things come to you in the future.

Here's an article that explains why the prices have gone up recently.  Basically, we haven't converted over to natural gas power generation completely, or even mostly, so we're still affected by the increasing price of coal.  That and some other costs have increased electricity prices.

Take your bonus money and go buy a windmill or a vertical turbine, some solar panels, and a Powerwall or some other battery backup system, and go off the grid.  Or get a natural gas generator and hook that up.
