Geokinetics, Inc in Mercer County!

On my way home from work yesterday I passed six giant white trucks that had Geokinetics on the doors. There also are cables running from Sandy Lake to I-79 that connect to boxes. I found out that Geokinetics is a geophysical service company that services the petroleum and mining industries! I guess somebody is spending a lot of money to find out what is under Mercer County! I hope they find a lot of what they are looking for! Mercer County has both Marcellus and Utica.

are they using seismic testing because nobody knows what is underneath - or is it fine tuning that is paid by an operator to figure out where to drill?

thanks Homer for the quick response.  I guess i am trying to figure out some things that may never be known.  My thoughts were that a company would not waste the money if they didnt want to accomplish something and was hopeful that since the geo folks were here then it would pan out.  So  i wanted you to say that we would all benefit financially since they tested near our property.

It could still happen. I will say as I havce said earlier there is not

gas under all of PA.

 I find the correspondence between members to be highly informative. This is the first time that I have responded although I do read comments all the time. My recommendation to anyone who has a vested interest in this industry to be as informed about it as possible. That means doing your homework and probably includes looking up different websites to learn about all aspects of this business...positive and negative. Take the time to read what is going on in other areas. Sooner or later these issues might affect you.

 

I know that Geokinetics is working in Sullivan County PA, on property near ours. I stopped and spoke with their on site field supervisor as well as others completing the drilling. They were very cordial. As I drive around the area, I am constantly seeing little colored strips of plastic hanging from tree branches that are left by someone. They are Blue, Orange and other colors. Does anyone know what these symbolize and who is leaving them?

A challenge to anyone who has to work with the gas companies is the fact that if you speak to someone about a particular aspect of gas operations, they often do not know the big picture. So trying to ask them anything other than what they are doing proves to be challenging.

A friend of mine that lives in Clintonville, Venango County, told me that his neighbor just signed a lease for Utica @ $1800 per acre and 18% for his 75 acres. Clintonville is not too far from the East side of Mercer county (about 6.5 miles) and not far from me (about 14 miles). That is $135,000. I am looking into this further.

He didn't know/couldn't remember but is going to find out. I will see him again next Monday.

A few months ago Geokinetics performed the same test in Benton Township, does any one know the results of that test I can't seam to get any type of answer ?
