For those of us who are invested in shale gas in one way or another, you can start breathing easier. As an owner of mineral rights in West Virginia and who has leased those rights to a developer, I have been concerned that the negative affects of "fracking" on the environment would influence legislation too much. This would cause more laws to be passed and regulations to be written which would add more controls over the developers. These additional regulations would result in added costs to comply with the regulations. and these additional costs would affect the market price for the gas. Eventually, the higher prices would impact the amount of gas brought to the wellhead. Less gas means less royalties.
Well, we can start breathing a little easier. Entrepreneurship and new technology is coming to the rescue. You should read this article I came across:
