Hot Air: Obama administration ignores eco-radicals, approves another natural gas export terminal

Didn't see this posted, thought it was interesting to see that a gas export terminal was approved - well, "conditionally" approved, which doesn't sound like a true approval to me. More like, we'll tentatively approve it until after the election then put the kibosh on it. But this is progress, I guess.

Interesting that this terminal is for Coos Bay, Oregon.  Will that be Canadian gas?  Alaskan gas? Gas shipped through the Rockies?

And saying that this will hurt Putin, as the article states, is not entirely accurate.  It will take 7-8 yrs to build, plus Europe needs to build LNG import facilities, which, knowing Europe, will take at least 10-12 yrs.

The vast majority of gas will go to Japan, China, and other Asian countries.

Here is a bit more info than is provided in the Hot Air one.

'conditionally approved', like the keystone pipeline.  elect a dem cogress and it all gets cancelled.

Disagree.

Much of the opposition to natural gas exports comes from big industry, who want to maintain low pricing to use it for energy and feedstock.

Big industry is strongly Republican.

hahahaha.

"conditionally approved" is political speak for we are open to bribes from all interested parties.

"copied from article in link"

When Russia invades Ukraine United States only hold card aside from more "sanctions"

will be to export more natural gas to Europe."

*copied part below:

In recent days, House Speaker John Boehner and other congressional Republicans have urged the Obama administration to speed up natural gas exports and send more liquefied natural gas to Eastern Europe and Ukraine in light of its conflict with Russia over Crimea. Ukraine relies heavily on Russian natural gas shipments.

Boehner has called on President Barack Obama to "do everything possible to use American energy to reduce the dependency on Russia for our friends in Europe and around the globe."

Big industry is strongly Republican.

You mean like GE, GM, Google ...
