I have a question

We are located in Darlington Twp., Beaver Co. All day Friday and Sat. a helicopter towing a big shiny object like a pipe Circled around our area. Just back and forth. Wonder if anyone knows what kind of a test or what they are doing.

To me JS and Dexter get my best grade for making a best guess.

So I'm on their bus for sure.

Good luck, as I understand that looking for faults that trap hydrocarbons is one reason for going to the trouble - and if that's the reason I hope they find a big hydrocarbon trap that includes your leased ground (assuming you're leased here).

Another reason to look for faults I think (guessing here) may be so they can avoid them with disposal wells so as not to take a chance inducing seismic activity.

Not a geologist so I'm just guessing / thinking out loud and doing so to better prepare myself if we see similar activity on our ground some day hopefully not in the too distant future.

Thanks Joseph, and I agree with you about JS and Dexter being the  most informative. As to your question if we are leased or not. Yes, and our lease is to run out next summer. They were to drill on our land this past spring and was just told by Chesapeake that they are concentrating on WV now.That is one reason I was wondering what they were doing.

How close were you to it?  They just trimmed the trees last week here along the powerline that heads to your area. I bet that is what it was. Probably weren't any trees needing cut when you saw it, thus it was higher.

The best answers would most likely come from the Beaver County forum here as someone right up the road from you might have seen it closer.

Thanks Craig but I don't think it was trees being trimmed.Maybe I'm wrong.I don't know in feet, but they went back and forth over our property in the back.Time will tell I guess. Thanks again.

They are looking for pot in the area. Seems folks like to grow it right at the edge of the ROW's.

In our area we also have extensive utility work being done by Ohio Edison and it is being done using helicopters.  They are adding a second back up power line so that in the event of outage or if they need to do maintenance work they can switch to the back up line and do repairs or maintenance work on the other line.

Also if they are doing seismic testing in the area sometimes the ANFO is sometimes delivered by helicopter.

The Ohio Edison ROW helicopter trimming / brush clearing maintenance activity made the 5:00 pm news on Channel 5 this evening - Lee Jordan's hour - so maybe that was what you saw.
