We obtained our mineral rights recently in southern Jefferson county. We have over 100 acres and no companies seem interested in leasing. Should I be worried or just patient?

Jefferson county was leased pretty heavily during the first 18-24 months of the play.  With 100 acres I'd say that someone somewhere will want your lease.  If you had five acres I'd say maybe be a little worried, but with 100 I think patience is the right sort of virtue for you to possess for the next six months. Maybe find out who holds the leases that surround your property and see if you can gather intel about the activities of said lease holder.

We have contacted the company that hold the leases around the property that are not leasing at this time. I guess we will have to just wait and see.

Who is it?

Are you refering to Jefferson County, PA?

Are you refering to Jefferson County, NY?

Are you refering to Jefferson County, WV?

Or, are you refering to Jefferson County, OH?

Thomas Jefferson was a pretty popular fellow.

LOL I am sorry Jefferson Co Ohio.

Regardless of whichever state, your comments likely apply.

NG and also the NGLs prices are currently in the toilet.

Too much happened, too fast.

The demand end of the equation has to catch up will the new found wealth of supply.

And infrastructure is often inadequate or not yet existent.

All IMHO.

I also have acreage in Jeff Co and the same thing has happened to me -- kinda a dead period. Hopefully interest will pick up in the next few months.

Martin,

According to CHK & Gulfport maps on their August 2012 investor reports, Jefferson County is outside of the Utica wet gas "sweetspot" except for a small sliver in the NW corner. Also, CHK reported results from a Jefferson County well in their 2Q 2012 report that was only NG. When NG prices inevitably recover, interest in Jefferson County will re-kindle.

I believe we may be in the marcellus wet area here in Jefferson. I know its thin but brooke and hancock wv right across the river from us seem to be getting wet gas from ches wells.

If anyone is interested in talking about selling their mineral rights, please check out Monarch Minerals www.monarchminerals.net. They truly care about the mineral owners and go over the positives and/or negatives of selling your minerals and talk about a fair price. They don't require that you sell your minerals and give advice for free! If the mineral owner is still wanting to sell, the company reaches out to potential buyers and get offers! They charge 5% of the sales price so you know your interests are aligned. Others try and make you sign option contracts where they low ball you and turn around and sell the minerals for much more.
