Just wondering how do they move a drilling rig from one pad to another

Looks like they would have to be completely torn down, then how do they move it,looks like it would be to large  to put on the highway.

Wonder how long it takes to do this?

This is just for my curiosity?

It arrives on a series of flatbed trucks. They set them up and tear them down quite rapidly, 48 hours or so. They may be able to do it even quicker but I have witnessed this pace.
Yes we too have seen down and back up at new new site in very short time. They tend to move on weekend ... less work traffic but not always. Many but not all rigs are laid over on side. Separated into two or the sections. Materials at bottom actually need to go new site first. Escort cars go with each piece. Also they are stationed at crossings where trucks will be turning to protect traffic ... Wide turns, have to back up, cross center line etc. It is fascinating to watch even from a distance. If you get the opportunity to watch do it!!!!

This a video of  Williams Energy's 41-yard long de-ethanizer going through a 90-degree turn.

Not a drilling rig but it is a cool video of how they use remote control to steer very long loads through very tight turns.

Based on one that went by my house:

Very, very slowly, very, very carefully, and with a bunch of pickup truck guys, running around like crazy with really long poles, extending those poles way up into the air in order to shove wires up and out of the way.

I did have one instance, a few years back, where the passing equipment took out my telephone line.  That was not a good day.

Thanks for the info,I find it interesting  on the size and how they were transported  and set up. Thanks again
