I have a question for the landowners that have multiple pads, multiple wells, and getting royalties. Do you discuss this type of activity to friends, coworkers and family members? Just wondering...

Adam thanks for writing and understanding what I am trying to say.

This is just my opinion, but overall you have to do what your gut tells you and base it on the context of the situation, i.e. what is your percentage of the interest vs is there leasing going on over there in that section?

But certainly one can share their knowledge while maintaining anonymity. In the end, all this information eventually becomes public...so IMO if the information is useful sooner to someone else making a decision I share it in most situations.

LOL! My boss already knows the day may be approaching when I give notice. I'm 54 and would jump at the chance to retire early. Of course , he's in the same boat since he lives only a mile or so away and is also patiently waiting for his turn.

Family - not at all

Local in-the-shale friends - as required to benefit both parties

Distant friends - selectively, but wish in some instances I had not

On the job - you have to be kidding!

Frank, your family is already talking behind you back and claiming your rich anyways. LOL I hear this story all the time.

Good one, Fred!  No, I can honestly tell you my family is, so far at least, clueless.  Mind you, my reference here is to wealth related to shale.

We discuss on a limited "need to know" or "important info to share" basis.  Our grown sons are fully aware and always kept updated - they will inherit the property and terms of our lease.  Other family members that are aware we are in a unit, we give minimal info - primarily because they have a misconceived notion that we're getting large sums of money in royalty - which we are not.  We do not discuss with coworkers and friends, unless we know they are also leasing - then the discussion is to share information of value.  We discuss most with our neighbors, because it's to all of our benefit to make sure our neighbors have good leases and are sharing the best approach to resolve issues.

"Unless you are going to help them out, then most folks don't want to hear about your good fortune except if you are having a kid or dodged a bullet."

Only true friends will be happy for you, the others will be jealous.
