Seems they are considering converting gas lines to carry crude.  Doesn't go into any details explaining just what needs to be done to convert the pipelines. Just that it may take 2-3 years.

Just guessing, but I would think the cost and quality of NG pipelines vs. liquid pipelines is lower.  NG isn't just cleaner to burn in an engine, because it is clean it is way less harsh on the pipe and the pipeline might not ever need cleaned.  Maybe there should be some consideration or incentive for new construction of pipelines to be multi-use ready.  Then the same pipeline can be batched with pigs to carry what the market needs carried when it needs moved.  Maybe even food or water grade?
