Need Presentors for Shale Presentations, Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, PA

Hello All,

After a few discussions with members of the Precarious Alliances' co-chairs, I have been asked to find people, organizations, etc. that are neutral and/or slightly pro-shale to come give lectures, presentations, etc. on Shale Gas as part of the Precarious Alliance. The Precarious Alliance is a symposium that is given by the college every 2 years on topics relating to sustainability. This week, as events leading up to this falls Precarious Alliance, Penn Environment (Anti-Shale group) will be having a seminar/workshop on combating shale gas in municipalaties after a screening of Gasland.

Since the Marcellus Shale is a contributing factor to my avalibility to attend college, I was upset by this and inquired as to the biased presentations. It was exclaimed to me that other presentations would more then be invited, as the Penn Environment workshop was set up and planned by them completely, Thus I was given the task, if interested, to set up said presentations.

What I am interested in is presentors who come from the industry (so that they are the most educated in the field), but come from a neutral standpoint. I am looking for a mostly educational presentation, with question and answer sessions, that debunk some of the flat out lies some people interpret, hear, believe, etc. relating to shale gas, while hearing it from someone other then a gas company. Maybe on down the road, we could have a presentation from the Marcellus Shale Coalition, but I do not want to give the impression of an attack on the anti-shale people...more of an education of what REALLY happens...not what some off-broadway playwright says happens.

The presentors must know and understand you will very likely be dealing with a very diverse audiance, including students, faculty, community members, pro-gas people, anti-gas people, people affected by the shale, people who have no idea about the shale, professional staff members (Docteral degrees in science, humanities, etc.) and will most likely be drilled with questions and put on the defense. I need someone who can stand up and give an education about shale gas from the oppertunity standpoint. If you think you can handle it, and do so in a professional mannor, I would greatly appreciate it. I can be contacted at mortontw1324@delval.edu. I strongly encourage engineers, scientists, and other professional staff relating to the Marcellus Shale to consider this, however I am open to anyones presentation, so long as they respect the opinions of others and are focused on educating the audiance from a oppertunity in shale gas standpoint. I am looking for presentations for evenings during this spring semester, as well as possible panel members and presentors for the symposium in the fall. Thanks everyone for your time.

Eesh.  Honestly, I'm interested but that's going to be a hard sell.  Something where you really stick your neck out needs to be more centrally located - I don't think many managers are going to go for an event so out of the way.

I know it's not what you're looking for, but I'd ask Energy in Depth - they have speakers for events such as this.

Great! Thanks!

I know it is not centrally located, but Shale has been quite the hot button issue around here lately. Of course we have a member of our Liberal Arts Department that is a fractivist with information from Gasland that he is preaching to anyone's throat he can reach down. My goal is to simply educate some of my fellow peers and students, and maybe even some staff and faculty members who are willing to look at it in an economic and scientific (more or less, common) sense, rather then a biased, leftist, egotistical sense of said faculty member. Many students, as well as alumni, are directly related to the shale, and can only attend college due to the shale, and I feel this is just one thing I need to do to stand up for what I believe in.

Thanks for the reply. If anyone else has any ideas by all means let me know. I've thought about just doing it myself but I don't know if I could answer all questions. Opinions?
