I've been scouring prior posts and haven't seen this mentioned.

I have general counsel who feel they can handle leasing. But with everything related to leasing/drilling  becoming even more complex feel the need to discuss things with an experienced O&G attorney. So far the firms I'm finding with long-standing experience and good reputations represent both landowners and producers. As a landowner & royalty owner that scenario makes me uneasy.

Are there experienced O&G attorneys out there who represent only landlowners/mineral rights owners? I have interests in both Ohio & WVa, however of the two for now Ohio is most critical.

Appreciate any feedback or assistance on this.

Attorneys represent the clients that come in the door.  Some firms, especially the ones who have actually been doing O&G work for decades, are going to have a record of working for many different causes.  It's part of the job.  Beware the person who says they only work for landowners.  It means that either 1.) they're really new to O&G law or 2.) they've been around for a while and they're incompetent.

Thank you Marcus. I'm wondering, doesn't that create some kind of potential conflict of interest scenario? Theoretically it should not but with all the info they might be privy to on both sides, wouldn't at some point those lines have potential to blur, such as influence advice given?  (Just thinking out loud...)

"Bigger law firm does not mean better and typically just means you get a bigger bill for three people (i.e. partner, associate and paralegal) to bill you every time work needs done on your matter or while all three go to the bathroom or lunch together to discuss or think think your matter.  lol"

Possibly the most accurate thing ever posted on here.
