An upgrade to ODNR interactive oil and gas maps is now avaliable. Looks like a home run.
Property owner's names are listed in many counties.

This interactive mapping service is great, I hope ODNR can do the same for pipeline locations sometime in the near future.
Jim,
There is. I stumbled on it about a month ago and its really slow on my computer (more like a DOS system). Its a US Gov site. I'll attach the link, but to get in, you select the button on the right 'NPMS Public Map Viewer', then on the next window, in the lower, left, select the state you want, then let it roll over to the next screen, and scroll to the bottom of the page and select the county. Then it really works slowly, but I found a gas pipeline running from Cochranton to Asthabula about a 1/2 mile from my property. I drove over on a back road and sure enough right where the map showed it.

Markkot,
Thanks, that's a good site for pipeline locations, but I think if ODNR can layer the active horizontial wells to pipeline location, some land owners may see that they have a better chance of having a well drilled in their area because of pipeline location, verses an area that has no infrastructure. I would like to even suggest that ODNR layer their maps that indicate the areas of total organic carbon levels; TOC, S1, S2, and Ro%. It's all about money.
I have looked at the ODNR map and could use a little help interpreting it. I was wondering what the small colored dots are when you zoom in to a specific county, such as Trumbull? Some are pink, some are blue and some have small lines irradiating from them. Any thoughts? I did figure out where the wells are and the "legs "of them, but am wondering about the small dots.
I know they are wells, but what are the different colors?
I don't know if ODNR made any announcements. I found it by accident. I went to the old site looking for some information and found the upgrade.
I think ODNR is doing a great job for the public. I remember seeing some land for sale in an area that will someday be leased. I thought it was a large field that was for sale. Turns out after using this site, it is just a few acres. I'm going to check with my accountant and see if I can purchase this land using my self direted Roth Ira. Maybe all income will be tax free.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
