Ohio has approved 2,158 Utica Shale permits as of April 9.

That total includes 1,721 drilled Utica wells and 1,259 producing Utica wells, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources says.

Ohio has 11 drilling rigs working.

Six new permits were approved: one in Monroe County and five in Noble County
