At the start of this discussion, I would like to point out that I no longer live in Pa.  I have lived in Wyoming for over ten years now.  Three years ago, when this gas leasing business began to really heat up in Tioga County, I asked some of my Wyoming friends involved in the industry for advice.  One of the directions that they suggested that I go to for answers was the Pa. State Oil and Gas Commission.  In Wyoming, most information, such as the monthly and yearly production of any given well, is available to the general public for free.  Friends of mine tried to access the Pa. Commission through their companies.  They discovered that a substancial subscription fee must be paid to this commission to access information.  Please bear in mind, I had this conversation over three years ago and my facts may be cloudy.  As I recall, the fee was $1,200.   

Having spoken to various lawyers and accountants in Wyoming Who have dealt with leases and royalty money for clients over decades in Wyoming, one potentialy disturbing issue comes up.  Some oil and gas companies pay land owners for a certain amount of gas on the royalty stub and actually report the true amount of gas extracted to the O & G Commission.  These amounts could vary by 20% or more.  This was a concious effort on their part.  Lawyers and accountants caught the discrepancies and the companies were forced to pay the additional royalties.

My point is, perhaps an individual should use some of his/her royalties or bonus money to join this commission to have access to a well's production numbers.  Also, My gossip information over a campfire on a mountain weekend may be incorrect.  If so, would someone in the know out there correct this forum discussion?  I did some quick internet reasearch this morning but could not turn up a satisfactory answer.
