permit question

I was looking on line at the permits that was pulled for our property. They have the operator name then the farm name then the well name and number. My question is after the well name and number there is a number with a h behind it. Such as 3h or 8h and so on what does that mean on the permit? thanks for any help you can give.

I believe that the H stands for horizontal.

The number is the well number on the pad. The H is for Horozontial.

Homer - thanks for all the great info!  My question is that if they start with the 1st well on the pad having a number 8H, in your experience do they generally anticipate having 7 more wells drilled on that pad?

Those are the two wells thay are going to drill. Well's are selected on pads to go in different directions to try and get the best from the Marcellus. Many times after the wells are drilled and produced for a while the operator can make adjustments and find the best direction to maximize production rates.

There is always that possibility. Depends on production.
