Heard will be doing seismic testing in Trenton Black River in March in Carroll, Harrison, Belmont in Ohio etc...not sure if in your area
Nice map..Black River is what I heard seismic testing will be done for..thanks
Seismic company rep just called me, testing starting in January for all shales below Utica and also to see if can place more laterals in Utica wells with less spacing.
Good to know that potential for double/triple stack plays in Ohio...Marcellus too shallow in Ohio except for maybe far southeast
Robert, just linking some Marcellus info for you and those unfamiliar with what is happening with Marcellus formation in Ohio.
44 permits; 27 wells drilled in four counties; 11 wells producing as of 10/25/14 12 companies drilled or have permits; on chart it looks as if two more companies, but those are now owned by companies included in the 12. The number producing varies as new Marcellus or Utica wells are drilled on these same pads the producing ones have to be shut in.
Belmont 9 permits
Carroll 1
Jefferson 2
Monroe 32
There are also several vertical Marcellus wells in the area bordering Ohio River in SE Ohio which have been producing for about four years. Several of those wells have significant amounts of Marcellus formation as in 75 to 80 feet.
Biggest question is how far does the formation extend into these counties? Only time will tell.

Searcherone,
I am pretty familiar with that activity, its mostly in far SE part of those counties, the Carroll County well was awhile ago and none have been drilled since.I believe in central Carroll County Marcellus only about 30 feet thickness, gets thicker as move to east and south.Shales below Utica offer greater potential....hope seismic testing warrants test wells..would be a huge development if there is an economically viable shale in addition to Utica/PP.
Robert,
So those in the far SE parts of several southern counties could have the possibility of four paying zones?
Eclipse has written a number of leases listing three zones, but not the Trenton/black river.
Right on PA border may have Marcellus, Utica and Upper Devonian, not sure about Black River and other shales below Utica.
Consol Energy has stacked plays in areas near PBurgh that have Marcellus, Utica, Burkett and Rhinestreet...believe Burkett and Rhinestreet are part of Upper Devonian. Four plays on one pad. There is a lot of info on Consol and Range Resources websites presentations per stack plays in SW PA, has not been any mention yet of OH stacked plays.
Where's the Patterson well?

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
