Typically, whatever company is doing the drilling will send a letter to all property owners leased with them announcing the planned formation of the unit and wells. If the some of the property in the planned unit is leased with a different company then the letter will go to the leasing company so they can negotiate terms.
If Company A is doing the drilling in a unit that includes acreage held by company B lease, then Company A will usually ask for proportionate participation from company B.
That is how it went for me.
I was told by my company that they do not file the unit on record until production has begun, so based on that I'm not sure there is any way to look it up. I suppose you can search for the well permits and get a rough idea of the unit shape that way. Hope you get in.
And may I add that the DCNRs email reply service for requests at the DCNR is unbelievable.....I emailed my request for 6 plat location maps at 3:00 in the afternoon and I had the results emailed back to me in less than ONE hour! Un-freakin-believable for a State agency. They deserve some kind of award.
