I'm currently in a unit in OH. There are 9 landowners in the unit. However, per papers filed with Ohio Department of Natural Resources, only 5 landowners are listed for receiving royalties (myself as one.) Does this mean that the other landowner's leases did not contain royalty rights or that they possibly gave up royalty rights for larger, up-front signing bonuses? Curious as to why only 5 out of 9 would get royalties - amount of acres per landowner in unit does not appear to be a factor....Thanks.

If a landowner is in the unit then they are to be aid a royalty. Perhaps the 9 landowners are only the surface owners and the five listed are the true mineral owners. Just a possibility.
Are you certain that there are not 5 owners of 9 PARCELS?
I say this only because my acreage is in 2 seperate parcels but I own both parcels. Maybe they only list the 5 owners of the 9 parcels of land involved in the unit??
Just guessin' here but a possibility??
John: There are 9 landowners. They are each stated on the datasheet provided as part of the unit notification/formation. Each one is listed out, with the % of their acres taken into the unit. I thought perhaps the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources wasn't up-to-speed on the paperwork but since the documents on their site are several months old, don't think that's the case. I'll guess I'll keep hoping someone might have an clear answer...thanks!

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
